Dr. Richard Trotta
Dr. Richard Trotta has served on the CFHN’s Board of Director’s since 2015 and has served as Treasurer since 2022. Dr. Trotta grew up in Long Island and received his undergraduate degree from Furman University. He was commissioned in the Army in 1980 and served for seven years as an Intelligence Officer prior to attending medical school at the Uniformed Services University in Washington D.C. Dr. Trotta completed his residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Over his military medical career, he served as the Chief Medical Resident at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 1996, Chief Internal Medicine Department, Vicenza Hospital 1999, Commander, Vicenza Health Clinic, Vicenza Italy 2002-2005, and the Joint Task Forces Surgeon (Senior Medical Officer), Afghanistan 2005, where his primary responsibility was to provide healthcare to coalition forces and to increase the Afghan medical capacity nation-wide. Emphasis in Afghanistan included: providing care to women, children, and animals when necessary. After 28 years of service, Dr. Trotta retired from the Army in 2008 and relocated to Wilmington with his wife and 4 children. Dr. Trotta initially worked for Wilmington Health as an infectious Disease Specialist for 3 years before transitioning to Veterans Health Administration in 2012 where he currently serves as Associate Chief of Staff. Dr. Totta’s dedication to providing healthcare to our veterans and the uninsured in our community has helped to improve their health and quality of life.
